Utah Patients Coalition is a political action committee (PAC) working to improve Utah’s medical cannabis law.
We began in 2017 as a political issues committee (PIC) to collect signatures for the ballot initiative that became Proposition 2. Our campaign exceeded the number of signatures required, sustained by a strong volunteer force helping gather support at public events and in homes throughout the state.
In light of significant institutional opposition to Proposition 2—with prominent institutions and individuals organizing to encourage voters to vote against it—it became necessary towards the end of the campaign to negotiate with these parties to preserve a broad program for patients over the long-term.
Our organization played a key role in bringing all of Prop 2’s opponents on board to support a functional medical cannabis program that preserves raw flower, a broad condition list, a private market, and a viable path towards continual improvements with a seat at the table.
We have worked hard and invested significant sums of money in making this change to our state, and we’re gratified to see the amazing, positive impact it’s had on so many. We are dedicated to supporting patients in their effort to obtain this natural, alternative medical treatment—and are working hard to make the current law even better.
